We ride our e-bikes from the Sundial Bridge in Redding, along the Sacramento River, to the top of Shasta Dam every year. It's approximately 40 miles round trip.
It's a beautiful ride with bridges, tunnels, and plenty of beautiful views along the way.
We bring lunch and enjoy the well-kept park at the visitor center with picnic benches and plenty of shade.

As usual visitor center closed, but there is lots of parking and even without being open lots to see. Great grounds for a picnic scenic views and views of grounds spectacular. Unfortunately as we pulledbup on motorcycles a thunder storm developed. Needless to say no walks on the dam. Lake almost completely full. Worth the trip!!!

Nice view of the dam. Seems nice and clean until you look over the wall and notice lots of trash. It's sad to see that humans have no problem littering.

As you pull up to the parking lot, you'll notice there's a nice shaded grass area. It's a nice area to sit and enjoy lunch or a snack. This part of the visitors center is well maintained.

Sensational free tour of the dam tunnel and generators is available. Pick up tickets at visitors centre. Security is tight. If you are interested in how the dam was constructed and hydro-electric generation then you will enjoy this. You need to be able to walk to the centre of the dam wall to start the indoor tour. Afterward watch the free video in the visitors centre.

Very enjoyable Visitor Center walk-through with friendly staff and a new (20 min. long) video. Then we walked across the dam to take photos and a video. It's one amazing place. We also enjoyed a conversation with the newly-appointed Visitor Services Manager - who said she is working to resume the inside tours by Spring 2023.
