I used to live in San Diego and assumed that when my husband and I moved up to Redding last summer I would have to give up my Egusi and fufu cravings luckily I don’t have to. They also had these really good drinks as you can see my husband finished his before we even left the restaurant. I’m still drinking mine and love the strong ginger flavor it has.

We happened upon Amazing Alheri’s restaurant today. I wish I knew of this restaurant sooner. We really enjoyed the food. It was perfectly spiced and really good. We will definitely be back. Charity was also a real joy to speak with. We highly recommend them.

After a month or two having learnt about Amazing Alheri, I picked today at around 1 PM PST to have my first taste of their African cuisine, and I am NOT disappointed! The place is called The Knoshers. It is a small lil’ area, not many tables, and at the time I was the only customer there. The menu is minimal as well: four entrees, two drinks, one dessert. I went with the Poundo & Egusi and the Zobo tea. The stuff is spinach cooked with melon seeds, beef and West African spice medley, served with pounded yam. The dish was served in a container, and it didn’t take long at all to arrive. I was taught how it was eaten at Africa: take a pinch of the yam, use it to scoop up some of the “soup” I think I heard her call it, then just take a bite, all by hand. Eating utensils were provided, but I played by the rules all the way through. Plus I added the hot sauce to the dish. That mound of yam is like mashed potatoes but with a consistency of dough just about. I’ve never had yam before either, but I could use more yam in my life after this! There are some unique flavors and the hot sauce is mild, but it is comfort food at its finest and I enjoyed every bite! The Zobo tea is great too! Can’t go wrong with ginger and hibiscus! The staff is friendly, and they seem to be good friends with each other at that. Well, that’s the end of my little rant. I’m going to order from Amazing Alheri again at a later date, and I encourage anyone to give them a chance.

Picked up a plate of poundo and egousi at the Redding Farmer's Market to share with the hubby. It was so epically delicious. The spice of the meat was balanced perfectly with the mashed yam. Cannot wait to have more.

Look no further if you are looking to try an African cuisine or expand your culinary experience. I enjoyed the flavorful jollof rice and the spices (spices or no spices) and tender chicken with a cold Zobo tea to quench my thirst. I can’t wait to try my egusi soup in the fridge. A great experience overall.

The food was just as amazing as the service. I got an order of Jollof and chicken, and puff puff. The food was seasoned very well. I would recommend this restaurant time and time again.
