Our guide said something to the effect that the Garden had been used either by NASA to simulate mars, or by a movie crew wanting to pretend they were on mars. Either way, the ground is a brilliant red/umber shade and could certainly be considered a mars-scape. One of the most stunning sights I encountered during my visit to Hawaii just for the brilliant colors and surreal nature of the environment. We were brought here in relative comfort in pretty sturdy vehicles.

This place looks like Mars. There’s nobody here and you need Jeep or a vehicle with great suspension to get here.

It was about a 20/30 minute bumpy ride from the Sensei resort. I recommend that you find someone to drive you there that knows the road. There were no signs until you get to the place so if you haven’t been there, it’s hard to gauge.

If it’s raining and muddy, be warned. You might get stuck in the mud. There were not an inch of paved road.

All in all, it was great. Windy but an awesome view. You can see all the surrounding islands and you can touch the clouds if it’s low enough.

There’s no place like it on earth. Check out the photos and videos.

Nice views of molokai and maui, but really just a desert landscape with a bunch of rocks. The road here wasn't bad, but any further down to polihua beach is not fun. Still recommend 4wd to get this far

A 100% must see! Although it was ridiculously windy, it was a lot of fun to visit this place and run around exploring it all. I recommend wearing shoes because there are a lot of large rocks and boulders to run around/climb. Dusty and windy but so much fun. I would come here again...and I recommend you visit if you can!

Long drive on a bumpy road to Garden of the Gods. Worth the drive as it is one of the major attractions on the island. Bring binoculars so you can check out Maui and Molokai in the distance.

A high clearance vehicle is needed to drive out there in the winter. We were lucky to rent a 4x4 Jeep for $115/day.

If you are driving, please make it a habit to wave at cars passing by. It’s a small community of 4,000 people and it’s polite to adopt the gesture.

This is an amazing experience! When you are on the dirt road leading to this attraction, there is a point in the road where you will come to a fork. Make sure to go to the right and follow signs that say Keahiakawelo. Once, you arrive, you won't believe your eyes. At times, it will look like you're on Mars with giant rocks and red soil. You will witness breathtaking views of Maui and Molokai'i. However, be prepared for extreme wind. Garden of the Gods is in a wind channel that runs between the islands. Wind gusts can easily reach up to 70 miles per hour.
