Waimānalo Beach Park - Waimanalo, Hawaii

This is a great beach of you're looking for soft sand beaches you can get into without worrying about coral or rocks cutting your feet up. People are great and there is outdoor showers to clean yourself off after your visit. Not a lot of parking available but you can park on the street as long as you stay off the grass. Also, it's just past the lighthouse and sea life park.

Waimanalo Beach Park was one of our favorite places to sunbathe. About a 42 minute drive from where we were in Waikiki, enjoyed the country roads and stopping for fresh fruit at one of the mini stands that we passed along the way.

There were pigeons on the beach that we enjoyed watching as a forged for food. The waves were very powerful and frequently underestimated by people playing in the water. The waves would often wipe them out even in shallow waters. Part of the reason is that the sands slip so quickly with the waves that someone can lose their footing as the sand moves and wha y they think is solid ground disappears from under their feet. The beach was clean except for the usual flotsam and jetsam which made for interesting beach combing and walking.

Very good Beach However there are a lot of random pieces of plastic on the beach But the sand is Very nice And there are mountains surrounding the beach near the parking lot and a Small island Off the coast The waves Are a little bit big depending on the day if your not a strong swimmer i would recommend a different one

Beautiful, beautiful beach. My favorite so far on Oahu. It has lovely soft sand, and when the sun is bright the shade of blue water is unreal. I'm an artist, and it was a great place to get out my sketchbook and do a few pages. As for swimming the shore break can be a little rough at times, and it can get a little windy. There were folks body surfing and enjoying the waves though. It's very inviting. In early October the water was so pleasantly warm. I'd definitely heed all the posted signs, always, and sometimes there are jellyfish(man-o-wars). The trees behind the beach give a good amount of shade and it's easy to park yourself on this beach and stay for hours if you so desire. They have restrooms and picnic benches, and baseball fields. There are a couple places to get food within walking distance and a 7-11. At least on the weekday we found it's relatively peaceful, and you'll feel like you have it to yourself almost. My mom and I found it easy enough to get here by bus, as well as catch a return bus to Waikiki. The lifeguards are also awesome here at Waimanalo. On the way back to the bus stop my mom tripped some of these pods that fell from the trees there(be careful), and she took a bad fall straight on her face on the nearby concrete, wrecking her glasses and banging up her eye really bad. We walked back to the lifeguard station and they were so helpful to her. She said even with the fall, it couldn't have ruined what was otherwise a perfect day at Waimanalo Beach.

Parking: There is ample parking available at the beach park, but it can fill up quickly on weekends. Arrive early to secure a spot, or consider parking on nearby streets if the lot is full.

Wait Times: Generally, there’s no wait to access the beach itself, but the area can get crowded, especially during peak hours. The beach’s serene setting is worth the slight hustle to find a spot.

Food Offerings: While there aren’t many food options directly on the beach, there are several food trucks and small eateries nearby. Local favorites include shrimp trucks and casual Hawaiian fare. For the best experience, bring a picnic or grab a bite before heading to the beach.

Lifeguards: Staff and lifeguards on duty are friendly and attentive. They are readily available for any questions and ensure the beach remains safe for everyone.

Waimanalo Beach is known for its stunningly clear waters, soft white sand, and a less commercialized atmosphere compared to some other beaches on Oahu. It’s a great spot for a relaxing day in the sun, swimming, and picnicking. The beach is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, making it a picturesque and tranquil location.

Additional Tips: Be mindful of the sun and bring plenty of sunscreen, as there is minimal shade. Also, consider bringing your own beach chairs and umbrellas for added comfort.

So far, it is one of the most beautiful beaches/places I have visited while in Oahu. It is my fourth visit, and this beach is the top. I like the trees to provide shade, and closeness to public bathrooms and drinking water. Perfect waves for body surfing.
