My husband and myself take our boys 6 and 7 hiking all of the trails at least every other month. We have done every trail but the diamond (Grand Tour) is our favorite. It’s such a peaceful walk with great views. We go year round as you will see from my pictures.

A beautiful and safe place to get lost in the woods - but not too lost as I typically have a limited sense of direction. Most dirt paths lead to a paved road and cell reception is available for safety. Although, I recommend putting the phone down and disconnecting for a few hours to take it all in and rejuvenate the soul!

A friend who we were visiting took us here to take a 5.5 mile walk in this 812-acre park. While we didn’t get to see everything in this beautiful park we walked on many of the trails. The park has lots of paved paths to walk and many miles of dirt trails. It was about 900 feet of elevation gain over our walk. The dirt trails are fun to walk on but watch out for the mountain bikers. They can come fast and the trails are narrow. We got down to the Navesink River with a boat landing area, fishing pier and a small sandy beach. I can’t wait to get back and get on a few more of the trails.

Nice mixed use trails with a good amount of elevation and decent views. Lots of bikers, hikers, and runners. Gets busy on the weekends so be mindful of the surroundings. Do not walk your dog unleashed here, it is not a dog park.

This trails is easy to walk for any age. You can choose difficult trail that goes around the entire park. Bring snacks and drinks because they're picnic tables along the trail.

Came here to ride Mountian bikes with my friends. Great views, and trails. Also top Knotch bathrooms. Will come again.

Still my favorite Monmouth County Park. The trails are in much better shape these days with all the volunteer work and some of the re-routing. The only thing that disturbs me is the increased number of side trails that the mtb community has spawned. I don’t know why they can’t just keep to the trails they have. I don’t want Hartshorne to look like Allaire.

I've resisted reviewing Hartshorne as I do not feel just one review can do it justice. The hilly and wild western side and the craggy and historic eastern side can stand alone though they are connected by trails. The western Buttermilk Valley side is perfect for hiking with multiple loop trails and a scenic vista. The eastern Rocky Point side has facilities and Battery Lewis, a world war 2 bunker, which is sometimes open for tours. This side is great for mountain biking and features access to Red Rocks beach and a grove of tulip poplars so tall it is like entering a natural cathedral. So bring your dog, bike, and/or kids and spend the day enjoying the hiking, history and Hartshorne!
