Omg incredible experience! I live in the Heights and love how conveniently close this unique eatery is to our place. My partner and I come here pretty often to pickup food; they had a special today - bread with a puree of tiny fish and spicy tomato sauce. It was incredible - a spicy flavor explosion in my mouth!! Overall, the quality of everything on their menu is exceptional. I always keep coming back for their specials. If you appreciate an eatery that prioritizes nuanced and deep flavors + quality above all else, this is your place and is money well spent!

We went before the store opened and waited 20 min in line. Got a mortadella sandwich, arugula tomato and mozzarella sandwich, and a large struffoli for the holiday. On the menu, the small struffoli was $13, but it was apparently sold out (store had been open 10 mins.. 🧐) so I said ok I’ll get the large one. She rung me up and total was $75 for two sandwiches and a struffoli. Apparently the struffoli was $45.. pretty ridiculous. Sandwiches were delicious but so minimal for the price… mortadella sandwich was $14 for mortadella + olive oil + bread. No cheese, nothing. I know this place is famous and the chef is wonderful, the food is delicious but these prices are ridiculous. Glad we tried it but we won’t be back.

Sandwiches and pastries are good although overpriced, Sicilian summer salad was $18 for 3 small pieces of lettuce, a small pepper, some cherry tomatoes, and a couple pieces of cut up potato… the entire thing was smaller than my hand. For $18?! It didn’t even taste great.

Came for lunch not realizing the place is take-out only. Service is friendly. Very popular & crowded. Prices are too high for what you get. Got the bombolone with vanilla cream/custard, regular donut & coffee. I could smell/taste the oil used to fry the donuts, which was a bit unpleasant. Not very sweet, which I actually appreciate but couldn't get over the frying oil smell so didn't finish either. Coffee is strong & tasty enough, though a bit too acidic for my taste (this is just a personal preference not due to coffee quality.) Lots of Italian jams, oils, pasta & pantry items but all seem overpriced so didn't get any. Looks convenient for a neighborhood store but can't say it's worth a trip. Will not likely return as there are many other (better) Italian deli/bakery options.

So I finally stopped into a piece of Italy in Jersey City today. The escarole and bean soup was truly delicious. As good as my mother’s RIP. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients is what makes B&S special. I know it is expensive but in my opinion worth it. To have food evoke memories of places been and people no longer with us is an art. Thank you B&S. Looking forward to coming back soon

Bread was the best ever in NJ bakery! Rustic and wow run don’t walk to get it! People that worked there so nice. We ordered a salad and pizza, pizza was great, salad not anything special. Was supposedly radicchio and basically it wasn’t purple and looked like frisée lettuce and was not impressed for the high price . It had nothing but lettuce and a very very light oil lemon dressing had no taste. That was only food disappointing in my view.
Parking is somewhat hard but sweet the guy helped and brought food out to car. 😀

Loved the cappuccino!!

Everything is perfect here, you can tell they put a ton of effort into process as well as ingredients. The rossi pizza is vegan, they also had a vegetarian sandwich with mozz/arugula/tomat

Bread and Salt is such a rare treat. The bread is incredible, and a loaf lasts an entire week, yielding first great bread then toast then croutons and bread crumbs. Of course if you get Rick Easton’s cookbook you can make his delicious “meat” balls (3 kinds!), stuffed peppers, papa Al pomodoro, etc. The donuts are perfect with an espresso in the morning, and so far I have had the onion focaccia, the tomato and the zucchini- all outstanding. I look forward to this bakery opening on Friday all week, and the sandwiches are delicious- my favorite so far is the fig, Gorgonzola and salami. The ones I have had are all made on crispy, olive oil-y focaccia. There is usually a small line but the line conversations are great for menu suggestions, and you can usually have a coffee while you wait. Luckily I live close by but I would drive from Manhattan for this place!!
***Refreshing this review to say the panettone is off the hook. Waited in line for an hour and worth every single minute- you won’t find a better one in NYC. Incredible.
