Fourteen years ago, I used to have my English students do sensory writing in the Horticulture garden. It was a way to introduce them to a quiet, beautiful , meditative moment away from the campus bustle.

There was all this buzz about the corpse flower with reports from media outlets to come see it days before it even bloomed. Then once it bloomed there was no additional information about viewing hours or that it wouldn't be shown past the blooming day, even though we were told several times that it will bloom for 2 days. There was lots of "please follow us on social media, and we can give you information," but again, no additional information and no response to inquiries when social media was checked. And parking signs were still up so it seemed still the possibility, but no flower in sight. Disappointment for my kids, but more a failure in the school's part for not following up.

Did you know OCC has garden sale. In April they have the tomatoes and peppers, and what a great variety of each to choose from. Things you can't find at some of the high end nurseries and the plants look so healthy. The plants are $3 each and about 18" in for the tomatoes. Check them out in December for the poinsettia sale. Great size plants for reasonable prices. Check online for the poinsettia cam. The website will have days and times.
