Shopping here for over 35 years! The best produce, the best meat department. My favorite baguette. I buy multiples and freeze a few. By far the best people that have been there for years, says a lot for this establishment.

So convenient after shopping and eating at the mall! Beautiful supermarket with high quality products, also if you buy for at least $10 you get your parking ticket validated, I also love the wine bar at the entrance, will have to try it next time!:-)

This is not the first time I’ve encountered rude and unprofessional service at this location. On Saturday, October 12th 2024, around midday (around 4-6pm), I went to do my grocery shopping and decided to order a pizza. Upon approaching the counter, I was informed by a male employee that the worker responsible for pizza orders was on a 10-minute break. I waited patiently for about 20 minutes.

When the employee finally returned, he was already in a visibly bad mood. When I told him I’d like to order a pizza, he responded curtly, “No, it’ll take too long. Next time, order by phone like everyone else,” and proceeded to serve other customers without giving me a chance to decide whether I was willing to wait. I thad no choice but to leave, frustrated and rather disheartened by this dismissive treatment. Customers shouldn’t have to pay the price of humiliation and disrespect when an employee is in a bad mood.

This is not acceptable service. In what establishment is a customer denied an order because it might take too long, especially if its midday and closing hours are still long ahead? If your policy or employee wants to prioritize phone orders, it should be clearly communicated—whether through signage near the pizza counter or elsewhere in the store. However, if pizzas are being sold in-store, any customer should have the right to place an order at the counter.

Additionally, I’d like to raise a concern with store management. Many of your employees are spanish speaking, and I urge you to remind them to avoid speaking negatively about customers in Spanish, assuming no one around them can understand. This behavior is unprofessional and creates an unpleasant shopping environment. It’s disheartening to overhear an employee at the checkout area badmouthing customers in another language. One particular employee near/at the self-checkout has done this on multiple occasions, including that day during my visit, which makes the experience even more uncomfortable and rather disgusting shopping experience, it reflects badly on the store. No one goes grocery shopping expecting to get silently bullied by an employee in a different language they presume one is ignorant in. The other staff at the checkout aisle are much more helpful, serviceable, and approachable.

I recognize that retail jobs come with challenges and that employees may encounter both respectful and difficult customers. However, consistent bad attitudes, mocking or criticizing customers, and refusing service because of perceived inconvenience are not acceptable ways to conduct business. Employees should be trained to distinguish between customers who just want to shop and those who might be antagonizing on purpose. It is not the responsibility of a customer to detect an employee’s mood and try to accommodate it by making themselves invisible, avoiding interaction and not requesting services.

I’ve lived in the area for about 30 years and this is the first time I bought meat at Gelsons. Their meat section although pricey but it’s really 1st class. It’s the only store where I could find pasture raised Turkey. Watch out for their sales items they’re spectacular.

AWFUL experience due to rude female staff at self-checkout.

I picked up some fruit at Gelson’s after shopping at Century City Mall to get my parking ticket validated.

There was a short female Hispanic staff member at the self-checkout who was helping me and my partner and she was telling us how to validate our parking ticket but was confusing due to her not being clear on her instructions and just mumbling her words. Confused, I tried to scan the parking ticket thinking that’s what I needed to do, and she got visibly frustrated at me and exclaimed “oh my god” and “Jesus” at me while giving me an uncomfortable stare. She then asked me “if I was high?,” which l I did not say anything back to her just so that I could check out and have my ticket validated and be on my way home… but was just an uncomfortable and angering experience. I wasn’t rude to her in any ways and just wanted to get out of there.

Avoid this location or at least the self check out with this staff member as she was just incredibly rude.

DO NOT EVER SHOP HERE! Why would you ever police someone at self-checkout?
I go in to get my lunch like I almost every day from the hot bar/salad bar and the young chunky hispanic woman TELLS ME to ring up both of my items separately. I then reply “excuse me” and she then says “ring them up separately” and I immediately reply “Would you like to ring them up for me” and she says no this is how you should be ringing them up. I replied back to her “no you don’t instruct me to do anything because I don’t work for you, you can ask me instead policing me at self-checkout.” I also told her that this isn’t the first time shes done this to me. And she gets mad AT A GROCERY STORE and says Im getting my manager. I said fine. The manager (bald white guy) comes back and waits and watches me while I ring up the food and I ask him “Hi! how are you” and he replies back the same question and then asked me what happened and I tell him that you don’t demand someone do something at a grocery store you politely ask them “how they’re doing” and then you give the “Why” behind why they should be doing ringing up items in a specific way or asking them to do something to make the experience better. Him and the same woman both watched me ring up my food and I left the food there and told them to have the day that they deserve. I will never shop at this place and I will make sure that everyone around in the mall that I work at does not go to this grocery store This is absolutely pathetic and I had a five dollar reward that I can’t even use because of this bad experience!

The female cashier named Volga was very impolite and racist. I've have two experience with her and she's been unprofessional, impatient and very rude to client. Made me very uncomfortable. The other staff were mostly friendly and helpful tho. Never seen staff like this in West LA area

A plethora of fresh and ripe produce, I do a lot of juicing so this place is my go to when I want a variety of fruits and vegetables. The bakery area is always stocked with fresh pastries. This is also a great place to go when you need to validate your ticket for the mall. This place is NOT budget friendly so be aware.
