I'm not a resident, but I live in the homes next door. We've seen the residents here drag their dogs without picking up their waste, steal packages from front porches, park in fire lanes or block garage access (some with stolen vehicles or expired license plates), smoke in front of people's homes and litter their cigarette butts, aggressively drunk and screaming at random hours (including late at night), and even dig through our trash and recycling bins. Our biggest concern is safety, as the residents often partake in illegal activity, leading to frequent police presence—too many instances to list. I wish the apartment owners would hold their residents to a higher standard, ensuring that only properly background-screened individuals live here, not their problematic relatives who just need a place to stay.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing the Agrihood Senior Living Community into fruition. As a senior citizen living on a fixed income, I feel very fortunate to live in a nice studio apartment here in Santa Clara while staying within my meager budget. I love the garden, the farm and the fresh produce we have access to. I also love the inhouse library, work out area, laundry facility and community room. In addition, I like that I am so close to a variety of shops, restaurants, parks, libraries, farmers markets, community centers and the YMCA. And that the area is walkable and bike friendly.

The staff here has treated me very well since the day I interviewed last fall and subsequently moved in. Sandra, the Property Manager here is easily assessable and almost always keeps her door open for drop in convos. I have stopped in to talk with her on numerous occasions and I often see others do the same. She encourages residents to keep her informed about their concerns. She has a lot on her plate and remains friendly while working through issues.

Even though her official role is as a businesswoman with a for-profit, she also has the skill set of a non-profit social worker and connects well with the variety of residents who live here. This skill combination is rare. My life work experience allows me to see just how much she balances with grace.

Also, Sandra’s staff has a lot to keep up with in this building and they are all very kind and hardworking people. Kudos to all the staff here!

It makes me sad that the neighbors behind us have experienced some negativity connected to the senior living community. I want to note that the vast majority of us living here are respectful of your property and that we feel the same way as you about that those that are not respectful. Management has been taking steps to correct that. I have noticed the difference for the better in our building over the last couple months. This whole project has only been up and running for about a year so there is bound to be a learning curve and adjustment period.

I hope you will continue to make your concerns known, as it is helpful to those of us living here at 76 Winchester as well. Most of us are appreciative of a nice safe place to live and enjoy the walk to the park behind us and so forth and do not do anything to disturb your peace. Many of us do our part in addressing issues as well.

I think it worth noting that some of the issues we encounter are not from residents of 76 Winchester and there is a good chance the issues would exist even if this apartment complex were not here and maybe even to a greater extent. I think it important we all work toward the greater good. Sustainable housing is one key to that.

Thanks again to the City of Santa Clara, The John Stewart Company, CORE, Farmscape and all the other partners involved for hanging in there even through the disruption of the pandemic to make the Agrihood Senior Living apartments happen! I truly appreciate it!

PS - I give a five star review even if things are not perfect because I know it has taken a lot of thought, dedication and work to create a one of a kind space like this! Is there room for improvement? Yes. Isn't there always? Are management, social services and residents actively working through issues? Yes. Thus five stars from me:)

Update to living at Agrihood

I would recommend friends and family to live here. Everything in Sharon Lachapelle's review is absolutely true! I've been here a little more than a year I have had a peaceful experience. Sandra and her staff are kind and hard-working! My neighbors are friendly and respectful. I've seen packages sit in front of my neighbors doors for days at a time untouched. Things happening outside of the building may not be Agrihood residents. My Beautiful view and the large stainless steel appliances are my favorite.

Update to response:
I received a $1,000 gift card on January 17, 2024.
On February 12, 2024 I received a call from the office saying I could come and pick up my $500 gift card. The balance was finally issued after sending numerous emails expressing my concern about the $1,500 offer not being honored.
My $1,500 in full was finally received February 14, 2024.
Please check your email and records for the correct dates.
Thank you.

During my application process I was told that if I was approved I would qualify for a $1,500 gift card.
After receiving a call that my application had been approved I was once again told that I qualified for a $1,500 gift card if I moved in by October 31st.

At some point I called to see if the card was for a certain store. I was told no, it was a gift card,..."let's see It looks like you qualify for a $1,000 gift card.

The website said.."Hurry this offer expires October 31st. Your $1500 gift card awaits"!
For 60% AMI households.

I moved in on October 30th. Immediately after signing my lease I asked, "when would I receive my gift card"?
I was told that the office should receive them in a couple of weeks.

Approximately 3 weeks later I noticed that a few of my neighbors had a notice on their door addressing them by name, saying "we are pleased to announce that your gift card has arrived".
Please come to the office to pick it up.
I contacted the office on December 14th regarding mine. I was told that they cannot give a time frame.

It has been 2 months now and I'm still waiting for my gift card.

I was told that the Owner was working on them.
Any information regarding this matter would be appreciated.

Thank you.
