AHS is a national treasure, as well as a local community one. First off, thanks for saving River Farm from the Soviets! Second, thanks for not selling out to private developers!

It's a great place for a picnic. In the spring, the tulips are lovely. They have multiple events throughout the year. My favorite is the annual plant sale.

AHS provides a great resource to established and budding gardeners alike. They organize international trips and educational experiences. Membership gets free access to many gardens nationwide.

You can rent the place for weddings. The party rate is the same as weddings.

We were married here and it was beautiful! The grounds are well groomed. There are so many hidden areas of gardens to explore and wander through. This is a great trip for kids as well! The staff at River Farm were wonderful to work with. We had a beautiful day and can't thank AHS enough for their hospitality!

What's not to love about this location? It is rumored to be one of George Washington's favorite views, and it's free! The American Horticultural Society has an extensive flower garden, Children's Garden, and vegetable garden freely available for the public to walk through and appreciate at any time of year. The views of the Potomac River are gorgeous as well. I believe the building is available for party rentals, if you talk with the management, but the parking and the gardens are free for everyone to enjoy.

I personally bring my small children to the Children's Garden, which has a variety of play options including a row boat on land and a bridge over a secret nook of a hideaway. There are even shaded picnic tables available, if you want to bring a lunch, or just spend a nice afternoon with a book and the view.
