Just purchased a dozen pate; 6 chicken and 6 fish. All of it taste sour and stale. This isn't an isolated incident. Next time I will take the drive from Montclair to Elizabeth when I need decent Haitian pate. Receipt is attached as proof. Disgusting and I am quite Disappointed that they would knowingly sale this garage 😞

I am officially done buying from this place. The people that worked there are so disgusting for selling spoiled foods. The foods there are never fresh. I ordered pate kode from them in the past and it tasted so horrible it had a sour bitter taste and you can tell by the taste and smell that it was not fresh. I even ordered cake it had a strong mold taste and smell it was also hard too. I would not recommend this place for anyone be careful food poisoning is no joke.

After patronizing this business for over 20 years, the time has come for me to move on. Stopped by to pick up 2 dozen chicken pate, and for some reason, there was a fish mix up somewhere. My 4 year old daughter, who is allergic to fish / seafood, had an allergic reaction while eating a chicken pate. I later called Au Bon Pate and spoke to Kamara twice on 10/12 and 10/13 about the mix-up. He told me the customer is always right, and even though he can not perform a refund because he is in the process of replacing merchant payment systems. He told me to stop by when I pass through next, and he would replace the 2 dozen on the house. I asked if I should bring the reminder of the pate I got, and he said no need.

Guess what... I stopped by yesterday to collect on Kamara's word and brought the remainder of the frozen "chicken pate" that was not trashed with me just for proof and Kamara told me he'd only replace the dozen I brought back on the house and not the entire 2 dozen he told me on the phone he'd replace. He also got in a piss fight with me that whenever anyone orders anything and there is a mix-up, once you walk out the door, you are to blame, and he is not responsible in any way. He angrily screamed at me that I should have checked every one of the 2 dozen (24 pieces) chicken pate before I left the shop, seriously - lol. Also, the chicken pate's are no longer what it used to be. Either they are using some new / cheap sub-par ingredients after they jacked their prices out the roof, or some genius decided to switch up the recipe a few notches. The chicken pate is now soggy. Too much salty and chicken mixture is very dry and flaky. I swear it's not chicken.

We're all human but this epic F up and the acting brand new attitude blaming the customer for the shop's mess up is the last straw and I no longer intend to patronize or recommend Au Bon Pate. Dropped my stars to only one, preferably a zero would have sufficed. So long, Au Bon Pate.

06.19.21 update:
Called several times, but there was no answer... Took the drive and found a nice big sticker on the door stating that the location is closed because they failed inspection.

There was, however, a contractor on-site performing some work.

Always pass through Au Bon Pate to get fresh baked bread and chicken pate whenever I'm en route to NY. The chicken pate is delicious, not a fan of the fish pate, though. Prices are decent for the portions.

They have peanut brittles, my oh my, these are very darn good to die for, lol. Parking is sometimes impossible, so might have to drive around a bit to find a spot.

Everything is old and rotten. I actually had mold on my patties and cake. The cake was so hard I couldn’t even cut it I had to throw everything out. Do not go there! It’s not sanitary

there was a fly up in the food behind the glass 💀 maybe he was enjoying it bc i certainly wasn't. the beef and chicken patties were both so blandd like sis where's the flava'?! 😭 maybe that fly ate it up before i got the chance 😟 the chicken pate had a squishy black thing in it and i knew right then and there i needn't eat any more. the dough tasted like salty oil. threw out $12 of food. i'm starting to have a stomach ache too 😰

I thought this was going to be an authentic Haitian pâté kode but it turned out to be something not even worth the money. Won’t come here again
