the rooms ac froze up yesterday, we told the nurse we got an extra fan. the chair in room bar makes it impossible to relax. i realize nurses can't give individual care like icu can but apparently there work load is to high. i chose this place because i thought my wife would receive better care than at uab. case workers worried me to death before we got here now nobody answered the phone. if you have a loved one i would recommend somewhere else. apparently if your hurting, we gave you something for pain already is protocol. forget the meds not helping, 2 days no sign of a doctor. i hate this place . if i knew i could have her moved it would have been done yesterday. they haven't keep my wife cleaned up after bowl movements, only after she has layed in it for an hour. don't get me wrong some of the nurses care but most its a paycheck. if i was an administrator i would be interviewing patients and heads would role if they weren't comfortable as possible. patient care should be a priority one, if you set up a room for family to stay at least make the chair comfortable. when family needs a doctor after staying with patient hey red flag brookwood. the hospital over charges insurance, so why make people pay just to see there love ones. 6.00 for parking overnight is robbery

After reading these reviews I spent the entire week leading up to my surgery, in absolute fear. But I am so glad that I didn’t let them rule my decision to have my surgery done! The staff was incredibly kind and professional, from admitting to recovery.
My only problem is with the billing department (the ones not in the hospital). They were extremely unhelpful and very very pushy for money, it’s like I was a burden to them . They called the day before surgery and weren’t very kind when I tried explaining my financial struggles since this condition has taken over my life. Luckily, the registration inside the hospital were extremely helpful and so kind ❤️ he got my payment settled in 3 minutes with no struggle, unlike the man on the phone. I was taken care of from the moment I walked in, until my nurse put me in the car! From transport to pre op nurses- amazing and kind. So glad that I didn’t let these previous reviews scare me out if it! I’m sure there are areas of improvement, and people do have bad experiences. But you are not everyone and you can’t assume your visit will be as bad as others, especially when you are there for different reasons!

I am an ongoing patient here at Brookwood hospital due to my pregnancy. I see a dr hall Minnie on the 7th floor and dr Ruiz on the 6th floor. I am here to be BLATANTLY honest and I truly hate it but this is not and I repeat NOT a hospital for minorities or people of color!!! They say things like oh u think it may be uncomfortable but I’m sure ur ok when in reality it’s actually very painful (I’ve been having contractions since march everyday some days can barely walk). I’ve had my main dr completely try to disrespect my birth plan telling me to be prepared for a c section even though I have already had a vbac 100% NATURALLY before this birth and it also seems like my baby is ready to run up out of my body…..then when I asked her did she forget I had vbac she said oh I wasn’t aware (how when we literally have spoken about it!) but we always prepare for c section! Very off putting when I am healthy and been having no real issues that would cause for my dr to not have positive feedback or energy towards another vbac. Back in the day they would say hospitals treated blacks like guinea pigs because they believed we could take more pain and this hospital seems like they think the same! I lost weight for a long time because I was unable to keep anything down with my nausea I came in crying asking for something anything else other than what they were giving me because it was making the issue worse an I was told there was nothing and that this is something a lot of women go thru and I should know better being as though this isn’t my first child, but upon talkin to another pregnant lady (a white woman) she told me the dr was extremely accommodating and changed her nausea meds 3 times until she was on a good one and said “I wonder why they told you they only had one kind of medicine for that.” We both see the same dr!!! I am now literally finna have my baby so I can’t transfer anywhere else but if you arent their “target audience” please find another hospital! Many of the nurses are polite and respectful, u only speak to ur main drs for a few minutes u mainly will deal with the nurses so I pray u get one of the good ones, and the front desk check in an check out staff are pretty cool except for dr Ruiz’s receptionist if she is having a bad day u will definitely know because she will talk to u and look at u rudely as if maybe your bothering her personal time 🤣. I’ve been here a minute now so I just deal with everything I dislike but I wish I had chose a better situation knowing what I know now!

I had an operation here today and I have to say I had a wonderful experience. Granted having to go to the hospital and have a procedure isn’t fun. Everyone I interacted with was so efficient and kind. The billing department/admin and nurses made sure I had all the information I needed and kept me comfortable. Dr. Sabo did a fantastic job on the operation and I was in and out in a decent timeframe. I can’t thank everyone enough for how they treated me today. I highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Sabo for any of your healthcare needs.

Brookwood Out Patient Services charged my husband over $1700 for a co pay and told he had to pay it on the day of his heart surgery or he could not have it. He paid it with a credit card. When he told me I went back down there and asked them to double check and rerun his Medicare and Blue Cross Federal Cards because Federal Blue exempts the co pay since he has Medicare also. We are still fighting to get that $1700 returned to him. He filed a dispute 2 months ago and had to file another dispute today and file with Client Services. We are done using Brookwood Medical.

Their employee motto is legitimately “This is a hospital you don’t sleep”. Unless you are going to stay in the ICU department for your entire stay, Do Not come here. Not even for a stubbed toe. I came here for Pancreatitis, and was in a Diabetic coma, along with fluid in my lungs and a bit more. I could have died. I would say 99% of their employees do not give a damn about you and trust me they are NOT scared to show you. Go to UAB or Grandview on 280 please. This hospital needs to be shut down immediately

I don’t even know where to start, my granddaughter was born at 24 weeks at brookwood hospital in homewood Alabama. She is now 4 months old and at this point still in the NICU. We went to see her on yesterday and they had her in a swing. When we left the hospital the baby was strapped in securely. After we left they called saying the baby feel out of the swing and they found her on the floor.. there is no telling how long my grandchild had been laying on that floor. They can’t even tell us how it happened . Mind you they have cameras and they didn’t see my gramma y on the floor of how she fell. Brookwood I can promise this is not the end of this. This is unacceptable. Below is the actual swing they had her in, it rises up and down and swirls.

I had a procedure yesterday at the women’s center. And the staff were absolutely amazing to me. They did everything with a sense of urgency and care. I was clearly nervous and they made sure to communicate to me before they did anything. They made me feel at home and that’s not something you find anymore at hospitals. So thank you all for taking such good care of me while I was there!!
