Another favorite Hawaiian adventure took place at the family-owned Baumkuchenfarmhilo.

We traveled to the rainforest side of Big Island, and baked a German dessert known as Baumstriezel around a fire pit. We then enjoyed the Baumstriezel we baked ourselves alongside the Baumkuchen cake that is made and sold onsite.

It was a nice quiet break in our busy travel itinerary to just sit, relax, and talk with the very kind farm owners.

This is a great stop to make. The thing that surprised me most about Hawaii was the incredible diversity of cultures, and this is a great example. The tour was a lot of fun. The couple that own the farm/bakery are extremely nice.

Baumkuchen Farm offers a delightful experience with its delicious Baumkuchen and stunning property. The german owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming, enhancing the visit. Don't miss the free farm tour, where you can sample various flavors of Baumkuchen and learn about the farm's history and German-Hawaiian heritage. The tour includes visits to their vanilla plants and mangosteen trees, culminating at their charming store, where you can purchase these delectable treats. This is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a unique culinary experience in Hawaii!

I feel so lucky to have come across Baumkuchenfarm! I happened to see that they were doing an evening event to "Bake a Baumstriezel over an open campfire." We didn't know what to expect, but it sounded fun, so we decided to check it out!

This experience was worth every penny. First of all, the farm is run by the kindest German family, who settled in Hawaii 3 years ago. Their farm is beautiful, and the baumkuchen (German "tree cakes") are absolutely delicious. We love how they are bringing two cultures together, German and Hawaiian, to create the most delightful German cakes with Hawaiian flavors.

The experience itself was so lovely. Marie and Markus told us all about the history of baumkuchen, showed us how to make our own, and gave us the ingredients to create our own Baumstriezel over their huge campfire. They even had homemade chocolate sauce for dipping! Aside from being a beautiful farm and having delicious cakes, they were incredibly COVID conscious, ensuring that each family had their own ingredients and everything was clean and outdoors.

Don't hesitate to visit Baumkuchenfarm, and be sure to check out their Wednesday evening Baumstriezel bake! Such a fun, unique, and family-friendly activity. Thank you, Markus, Marie, and family!
