If you want affordable vegetables and fruits in the Jersey city area then you my friend found the place. Now just be mindful that the items are at its peak point so you consume them as soon as possible not compared to items in other super markets. Hope you get my drift.

The "Bergen Unique Market" is one of the most affordable produce stores in the area. I have found fresh Artichokes, fresh figs, African Eggplant, Shishito Peppers, Italian Flatbeans, among other unexpected produce here. Most of the fruits and veggies I have bought here delicious, and for the most part, also locally sourced.

Note that this isn't your typical grocery store; it's a produce salvage store. They rescue produce that larger supermarkets and local farmers might discard due to minor cosmetic issues or surplus. You will be preventing at least some food waste each day by shopping at this store.

For five years I come to this shop and have never been disappointed. I SO appreciate the premise of shopping for salvaged produce and fruit (less landfill and more affordable food into our bellies!). Check each product, and purchase to eat within a few days, unless you freeze fruit etc. Figs, pomegranate, persimmons, Asian eggplant and bok choy, bitter melon and kabocha, seeet and hot peppers and FAT bunches of cilantro and more. For $40 what I get here would cost me $90-$120 at Trader Joe's or ShopRite. I am a big fan!

My sister went to a store to buy grapes and ginger with her card, just craving a healthy snack! Only to be hoodwinked and bamboozled by scammers! The person at the counter kept watching her, and they had a weird-looking scanner. Please pay attention to this kind of thing. Next thing you know, they waited until November 2 to take $309 and connected it to some fake store in the Bronx called W Candy Land. !!!!!

I recently moved to Jersey City from Brooklyn NY a few months ago so I am new to the neighborhood.I have social anxiety and a fear of going in public which is made worse by the fact that I am a woman.I went for a walk to try to start overcoming this and to explore the neighborhood and the stores in the neighborhood.I saw the fruit stand and decided to check it out. I looked at the fruits outside and then their was a door and entrance which I thought lead to the inside of the store. It was dark with no lights on so I only stood at the entrance. I went to leave but bent down to check out some carrots I saw in a box that was on the floor. A Latino man suddenly yelled at me in a very hostile manner "HEY!!","HEY!!".I was shocked and scared and said "hello" in a calm manner because I didn't know who this man was and what was going on. Then he screamed "HEY!!" again at me so I left and went back outside because I felt threatened and scared. I told my mom on the phone what was going on and she was also scared for me and outraged a man was screaming at me. I then noticed that I was in the wrong part of the store and the real entrance of the store was a door down. This hostile, Disgusting, shameless,man may have been a racist because I'm a women of color and someone that is hostile and possibly violent towards women.He was standing outside the store so I assume he works there.Instead of politely telling me that I'm in the wrong part of the store and showing me the entrance to the store he began screaming at me like a wild animal as if he was talking to a dog. I am disgusted.I went to another fruit stand across the street where the people are polite, courteous and don't bully women.I called the store to report this man and they didn't answer the phone.
