Surprisingly Delicious Vegetarian Fare at Café Ono!

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating a birthday lunch at Café Ono & Catering in Volcano Village on the Big Island of Hawaii with a group of six. Admittedly, I’ve never been a fan of vegetarian food—usually dismissing it as "rabbit food" and often wondering why rabbits aren’t more vicious because of it. However, Café Ono completely changed my perspective!

Their menu is entirely vegetarian, which initially had me skeptical, but I have to say, I was genuinely impressed. I ordered the lasagna, and it was absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and satisfying in a way I didn’t think vegetarian food could be. Every dish at the table was met with praise, and no one left hungry or disappointed.

Stopped here for a bite to eat on our way to visit the volcanoes, what a pleasant surprise!! We sat outside in their outdoor garden, it was so relaxing, enjoying the birds, flowers and breeze blowing thru the trees….. there’s also the food, a simple menu but with great flavors, we had the lasagna and Mexican burrito. They did not disappoint! Service was great, and very warm and welcoming 😎❤️

This place is maybe also a BnB? I came here for lunch and to check out the art, it said it was an art collective and a restaurant. Maybe all of the above?! Anyway, they have one of the best gift shops full of local artists crafts I've ever seen, the gardens are gorgeous and the waitstaff and the food were just amazing. It was a treat and a fun experience.

This is not a hotel, it's a restaurant. Google seems to think it's a hotel.
Anyway, it was great. Ovo-vegetarian menu with many vegan options. I'm not a vegetarian, but still found the food delicious. Ate outside. Relaxing eastern meditative decor. Lovely service. This cafe will be on my lunchtime itinerary for all future visits to the Volcano area.

Food is healthy and heart warming.
Service is amazing , staff is super sweet and the owner is such a warm host that interacts a bit with each of his costumers.
The art gallery and the hand made crafts are beautiful (jewelry, pottery, you name it).
It is definetly a must see in Volcano.k
