I went to Char Vale on a group wine tasting tour as our last stop. The winery was lovely and the wines, especially the rose of Pinot noir, were incredible. Nicholas was our host, and he was happy to share his extensive knowledge of viticulture with us. Would definitely return!

We recently stayed at the Inn at Occidental that hosted a Valentine's Dinner. They paired the evening with several wines. We started with Rose of Pinot Noir from Char Vale. This Rose was delicious! In talking with other guests and the owners, we said, we were going to stop at Char Vale on the way home to purchase the Rose of Pinot Noir. Not only for us but for a friend that we know loves Rose (we wanted to surprise our friend with this Rose gift). When we arrived Nicholas (manager) greeted us as we stepped out of our car. You could feel his genuine warmth. We went in thinking we were on our way home and just were going to grab the Rose and sample some wine. It turned into great conversation and knowledge from Nicholas about the wines specifically the Rose that we were interested in purchasing. 2 hours later we left not only friends (sharing stories of SF and the Wine Country) but happy to visit a winery that is family run and not just a big business.
Loved it so much we walked away after tasting and purchasing several really amazing wines and a ton of knowledge about what we were tasting and buying. We learned a lot about the makeup of the wines that I just called my friend to let her know we picked up the Rose for her and a few for us.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Valerie (owner) so nice and down to earth. You can tell the pride she takes in her winery. Nice breath of fresh air. We talked about reserving a space and bringing in our own lunch in the future while we sample and enjoy the view. We also purchased the pinot gris and pinot noir.

If you want to visit a small, independent vineyard then this is the mecca. We were welcomed at the parking lot by Valerie Char and then introduced to Nicholas who managed our tasting. Sitting on the deck right beside their main vineyard, he explained to us how different microclimates within the same field can affect the flavors derived from the grapes. We tasted 5 different wines, including 3 different vintage of their single estate vintner's choice Pinot Noirs. The variation between each vintage of wine from the exact same field was amazing. Truly a wonderful experience. Thank you!!

We had an excellent experience at Char Vale Vineyards. Wine tasting in the Sonoma/Napa vineyard can be intimidating as a newcomer, but Char Vale really provided an inviting and intimate experience that was very well personalized to our tastes. Nicholas and Val were both very helpful and welcoming, and really took time to describe the wines and walk us through the tasting. Val gave us a very informative and interesting overview of how the vines are cultivated. The setting on the porch overlooking the vineyard makes for a great classroom to observe and discuss the vines. All of the wines were delicious, and the pours for the tasting were plenty generous. This winery may be small, but that really is what makes it special. Thank you for the great experience!

Lovely winery with a couple of small parking lots. We were here for the Wine Road barrel tasting weekend and they had a few nice wines for the tasting.
We got to try the barrel wines and the finished wines.
