Swung by here one morning to get some desert plants to ship back home where I live. I like collecting plants from many places and this location had a GREAT selection of Cacti and succulents to choose from.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with me getting the best ones that would survive 1) shipping back to NY and 2) surviving cooler temperatures.
Highly recommend! Could’ve spent much more time here exploring!

Second day of fall sale and the selection of plants was really sparse. Worse none of the smaller sized plants were on irrigation and many looked dead or on their way to being dead. Bought a few plants and watered them before loading them in the car. Cactus selection seemed diminished compared to this spring. All-in-all the nursey seems to be on a downward path. It's been our go-to place for over a decade so it's sad to see.

Update: 2 of the plants we bought have died and a third isn't looking good. There was a huge variation in the root development of the 6 one gallon plants. Some had virtually no roots and others were root bound. We'll be trying other nurseries.

I admire what Desert Survivors does as a nursery and non-profit, helping people. I've only lived here a few years, I moved here right before covid arrived. I actually found this business on the Arizona Gives list in 2019. Today they didn't have anything I was looking for but I did photograph some labels for their information. I haven't been to one of their sales yet, that will be a future adventure for me.

Desert Survivors has an amazing selection of rare and hard to find plants from the southwest and Mexico. As they were this would be a 5 star review.

As a regular customer I am shocked and dismayed that the new director now wants to get rid of all the rare inventory and cactus and make it into another civano. This is a big loss or the plant community.

Edit - The lack of plant availability has to do with the new directory being so toxic the entire nursery staff quit. It has nothing to do with expanding client services

This place is amazing! Over 800 species of native AZ plants! Seriously awesome plant geeks like Jack working there can tell you not only the current scientific name, but the old name and its ecological importance! I got three prickly pears and an agave that you can get no where else for $40! They propagate all of thier own material. Super helpful in getting them packed for the plane. It is a non-profit helping disabled in and through horticultural therapy. If you are a plant geek from out of town, dont waste your time, skip the other nurseries and come here first!
