The FEAST Garden is a wonderful natural space that promotes hands-on student learning, environmental sustainability and community engagement. The Oxy students do a fantastic job at planning educational programs that are free and open to the public. I recently attended with my toddler who enjoyed the activities immensely. During one program, the Oxy students taught the children the parts of a plant and gave them a tour of the vegetable garden. The children were also able to feed the hens spinach and learn about their diets. During another program, we learned about composting in a fun and age-appropriate way. The Oxy students led the children in exploring the compost piles—unearthing worms and bugs in the process!—and helped them make a worm craft. I am so pleased to live near Oxy and be able to engage with their student community and campus resources in this manner!

Truly love Feast Garden. It’s an amazing community asset run by brilliant students and volunteers. In an era of dwindling community green space and sustainability education, it’s a bastion of hope that higher education still has a soul. Protect it, visit it, celebrate it. Bring your kids to meet the chickens.
