We are in love with Foodschool! I have 3 kids signed up this session, and it is each of their favorite after school acitivity!! Each session they feature a different "key" ingredient- learn all about it- and then cook a wonderful recipe using the ingredient. My kids are so excited to come home and share their creation with the family!! The Foodschool space is gorgeous- and includes a greenhouse where the kids can participate in gardening and watch plants grow from seed to fruit. Jess and Sean and their staff are so incredibly great with the kids. The kids come home from food school smiling, confident, and full of enthusiasm. In an era where we are further removed from where our food comes from, I think it is incredibly important to empower our children with the skills to grow and prepare their own food. Not only will you see it increase their self confidence, but you will also see them enthusiastically eating all kinds of food (smoothies with fruit and spinach, veggie spring rolls, Meyer lemon smoothies, blood orange and fennel salad). It's amazing to see the kids eating what they prepare. And the best part about it is they bring the recipes home and are so excited to cook them again and again. I strongly recommend Foodschool for kids of all ages- and I secretly hope they start adult classes there soon too!!

We've started our 2nd season with Foodschool recently and our daughter has been thriving.  I felt it was time to write a review to share our experience with them and hopefully this is helpful for any parent looking into this school for their child.

We never thought when we signed our 7yr old up it would be her favorite class, just because she was a picky eater about certain things; foods with spice and her food touching.  We were hesitant to commit her to start a class where it was likely she would be trying a LOT of dishes that had new (to her) ingredients and her food would be touching or (gasp) mixed.  We agreed if she wasn't comfortable, we can gracefully bow out.  Like most kids on the first day of any class, she did not want to go, but her fears immediately dissolved once she met her new instructors and a few equally shy/reserved students.  Now, we can't get her to leave!  We're the ones there an hour early and 30min past class time, she LOVES being around the good energy, the supportive teachers, and have those few moments with her new friends before and after class.
Now for the pros and cons....

Pros:  (in no order)
Organized teachings in a beautiful space: Their method and approach to teaching allows the kids to engage in a variety of settings, as well as understand the materials provided for their age and level(s).  The spaces are of course kid-friendly and so well designed. NO harsh chemicals used, great for those with allergies!

Positive environment:  Each day we walk in feeling like we're home, there is a warmth to the environment the Foodschool staff has created and the kids respond so positively to it.  Everyone is so kind and welcoming, it's refreshing.

Amazing staff: You wont find a friendlier staff that cares about what the child gets out of these courses.  Each one of them is professional and takes their work seriously, all while keeping it a loving and nurturing environment for the students to thrive in.

The recipes are impressive:  I thought I was an adventurous chef, her exposure to healthy recipes here are amazing, I can't stress that enough. The materials and recipe book the kids get to build on with each class is impressive.  Our daughter has left class wanting to learn more about what foods she prepared that day, or content they covered.  It's peaked her interest to look beyond the plate.

Cons:
No adult classes (if you're looking for a parent/child class)

We were in search for a new idea of a learning experience that didn't involve another uniform or added obligations, something that was more hands on that our daughter could try.  We're beyond happy we found Foodschool.  I didn't think a place like this existed.  Our daughter is creating, thriving, making amazing friends, and coming home excited for the next week's class.  I like that she gets to build a consistent relationship with her teachers and friends.   She also has a new found appreciation for cuisines she didn't have before.

This is a great program! It puts kids in the kitchen, learning about foods, and learning to make great dishes. They make (and eat) something new every class. It's an 1 1/2 hrs long, and my kids love it. Every class has a take home sample and recipes (they've been cooking at home).
