While exploring the North Shore, we tried two popular shrimp trucks: Giovanni’s and Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp. Without a doubt, Tanaka Kahuku Shrimp was the better of the two. When we arrived at Giovanni’s, there was a long line, which raised our expectations—but unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the hype. The shrimp were small (you get 12 per plate), lacked freshness, and were noticeably under-seasoned. The strong garlic flavor was a plus, but it couldn’t make up for the lack of salt and overall quality. To top it off, the staff—especially the woman handing out plates at the window—was unfriendly and quite rude.

When we arrived mid afternoon the line up wasn’t too bad, perhaps 5/6 people in line. Ordered the scampi and garlic dog and it was hot, fresh, tasty and super garlicky. Decent portions. The rice was too mushy for my liking so I didn’t eat that. All in all, good and a must try experience but not mind blowing to me. Service was decent.

We stopped by to get shrimp plates. So many people rave about the shrimp. We ordered the shrimp scampi and the lemon butter. It was ok. The scampi had way more flavor so between the two I recommend getting that.

The garlic shrimp rice was delicious, and the rice was very soft. The spicy shrimp rice was really too spicy and sour; I didn't like it much. At 3 PM, there weren't many people on line.The lady selling the food had a very serious expression, which was a bit scary. 👻

The experience had its ups and downs. The long lines were a bit of a drawback—we waited about an hour from standing in line to finally getting our order. Parking and seating were also limited, so it’s best to arrive prepared for a bit of a wait. However, the food made up for it! The shrimp was absolutely delicious, and the garlic rice was a great addition. The multiple vendors onsite were a nice touch, offering extra food and drink options. Since we were on the island, it felt fitting to continue our usual visit, and overall, it was worth it for the food and ambiance.

Outstanding food truck. Garlic and Spicy Shrimp are delicious along with their Macaroni Salad. Staff is very friendly and quick to get the plate chucked out the window. Be sure to tag the truck. Definitely stopping by on our next visit to Hawaii.

Garlic shrimp is AMAZING also the mac salad. Worth the drive to north shore, and great views along the way. also great that there are other places to eat and shop at
