Dan and Berndt were wonderful. They truly have a passion for chocolate, the land, history, and honestly anything cool!

You start your tour sitting on their lanai overlooking the ocean and the cacao trees. You can feel the peace washing over you & then they give you your first taste of their chocolate 🤌🏻

While they obviously have a tour planned they were easily able to pivot and share different things and focus more on others as we asked questions or showed interest in specific things.

The tour was full of laughter, learning, and tastings of fruit, spices and chocolate. Amazing!

We haven’t stopped talking about it to anyone who will listen! Highly recommend.

Wow! My wife and I were visiting Hilo and we found this “Gem!” The Hāmākua Chocolate Farm is a must see and do event. It’s not only a Cocoa farm but a wilderness of beauty and intrigue. Like stepping into the palace garden you will see exotic plants, fruits and herbs while sampling all the ingredients used in making the delightful chocolate treasures Hāmākua Chocolate Farm has to offer. The tour is both interesting, exciting, and quite enjoyable! Don’t miss the opportunity to do this tour if you are in the area.

What a terrific three hours! We learned so much about the process of making chocolate. We had an educational tour of the entire property and the many plants growing in addition to the cacao trees. Dan and Berndt were so friendly. Highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I did the tour and we loved the farm. It’s a really beautiful space and we were both really impressed that Dan and Berndt (the owners) cared for it on their own since it’s huge!

I was expecting a tour of just the cacao trees etc, but they actually let us see the entire farm and showed off some of their cool plants/trees. They also have this tree house with amazing views.

I also wanted to mention that they talked about their process on the farm—how they started, how they faced several challenges and how they resolved them. I actually really respect how hard they worked and the love they put into their farm. They are two very impressive (and really sweet and funny) gentlemen.

The chocolate part was also really fascinating. I knew making chocolate is a long process but I definitely appreciate it much more after learning about it in detail.

It was overall a lovely day and the chocolate was spectacular! 🙂 Thank you Dan and Berndt!

Absolutely the most beautiful place on earth and run by people with beautiful souls. Oh, and the chocolate was pretty tasty too. I learned so much in 3 hours. As a chemist, I never knew how much chemistry went in to making chocolate.

This tour was the best chocolate/farm tour I’ve ever been on!! Their property is absolutely gorgeous and stunning. Dan and Berndt were a breath of fresh air with their knowledge, friendliness, and hospitality. I highly recommend this tour. Money well spent.

Beautiful farm and worth-it tour. Cacao is only grown in a few places around the world. The farm is vegan friendly as no animals are farmed here, plus most of the chocolate (90%) you will get to try is vegan. Friendly hosts too.

This was a last minute addition to our itinerary for the day and we had an absolute amazing experience. Dan and Berndt were gracious hosts, extremely knowledgeable and willing to share so much. The tastings and experience throughout the tour was second to none.

I cannot express how good this experience was. Highly recommended to anyone who travels to Hilo.
