HIGHLY RECOMMEND, book it!!!! Hanai Hives was one of the highlights of our trip. Each booking is a "private" booking for your party, so you will not be booked with a bunch of random people. This is truly a small family business that was an incredible learning opportunity. Katie hosted us: which included learning about queen bees, how/why honey is formed, how to harvest honey, all this cool and fun stuff I never knew about. You will be supplied with protective gear and I never felt unsafe.

The property itself is beautiful, and so are the bees! We got to snack on several types of honey and some fruit/cheese at the end, it was super cute!!!

Visiting Hanai Hives was the highlight of my honeymoon. We learnt so much about beekeeping and got to experience inspecting a bee hive with Katie. She is not only a wealth of knowledge but also a generous and kind hostess. Her passion is so contagious and we appreciate getting to know her and the wonderful works she’s been doing. Will definitely recommend this experience to anyone and families as well. We learnt so much and Katie made the best honey spread I’ve ever seen.

Amazing time learning and having fun with Katie, who is super great at teaching us about the island, agriculture and beekeeping - not to mention super patient and understanding with kids. She even helped us take tons of photos and prepared a delicious spread of snacks to highlight the honey! We learned about some new species of plants on her farm - including the lipstick plant which my daughter now wants to grow back home too 🤣 Definitely a must-do activity with your family if you're ever in O'ahu! Truly a bucket list item to see the inside of a bee hive up close! She is very cautious about safety so everyone is safe from stings even though her bees are super friendly and she can handle her hives without so much as a glove! P.S. Say hi to her adorable dog Bowie - he loves head scratches (and kids!)!

My mom and I had the most wonderful time visiting Hānai Hives!! 🥰Katie is such a kind and caring person!! She made us feel very welcome and it was so special to get to visit and learn about her work and see bees in person!! 😊My mom usually uses a wheelchair, and Katie drove us around in their golf cart so we could get the full experience. She was very accommodating and was very thorough in answering all of our questions! The property is full of many different fruiting trees and the bees look very happy and well taken care of - you can tell that they are very comfortable around Katie. Katie is very attentive to the bees and you can tell how much she loves them. The bees looked so happy and cute as they calmly went about their business in their hives! ❤️ Katie didn't rush us along and was very caring towards us as well - helping us in and out of the wheelchair. Katie also has beautiful dogs and we got to meet one of them - my mom really enjoyed playing with him! Thank you again Katie so much for the wonderful experience!! I highly recommend visiting here - the honey tastes wonderful and the people are just amazing!!!❤️❤️❤️(We got to see bee eggs and also a bee hatching!! We also saw drones and a queen bee 🥰 In one of the photos, you can see the bee eggs. Also, a cute photo of Katie hugging her dog!!😊) The honey was very reasonably priced and I got a cute shirt (the design is made by her daughter! So talented!!)💖 There are both adult and kids shirt sizes available

Came to Hānai Hives to celebrate a wedding anniversary! Katie and her apprentice Trinity were so knowledgeable and truly went above and beyond. They provided everything to gear up and have a safe experience handling the bees. At the end of the tour and demonstration we were treated to a lovely charcuterie spread with honey tasting of course. Thank you so much for the attention to detail and unique experience!

My family and I had fun visiting Hanai Hives and the tour from Katie! Aside from super cute pictures of my kids in bee suites, we really appreciated the getting to experience bee keeping "for real" and reinforcing what we knew from reading books. Katie was great with the kids and we had fun learning about the fruits on Hanai Hives property and the overall adoption that Hanai Hives is promoting. it was also fun having a tasting at the end of the tour in the relaxing backyard. PS we really appreciated how Katie took pictures of our family. It allowed all of us to be present with the experience.

My visit to Hanai Hives was nothing short of incredible! This experience was the perfect blend of fun, education, and deliciousness, leaving me with a newfound appreciation for bees and their vital role in our ecosystem.

The guided tour was engaging and interactive—seeing the buzzing bees up close in their natural environment was mesmerizing. Katie explained the life cycle of bees, their critical role in pollination, and how honey is made, all in a way that was informative and easy to understand.

One of the highlights was getting to taste honey straight from the hive! The honey tasting session also included some unique infusions, all of which were a delight to the senses.

I left with a greater appreciation for these amazing pollinators, a couple of jars of the best honey I’ve ever tasted, and a sense of connection to nature. If you’re looking for an unforgettable outing that’s both entertaining and enriching, Hanai Hives is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommend!
