What a fascinating tour! I loved hearing about the history of the salt farm- what it was and how it came about as well as the wealth of information about the salt and ocean itself. Simply amazed about what this small group of dedicated persons are able to accomplish, maintain, and grow. The salt tasting was fun and foot spa was invigorating. We brought home a few different deep see salts and will have to order some magnesium. Our guide, Ipolani, was kind, passionate, personable, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend a tour! The venue and location are top notch as well; I can only imagine the beautiful events this facility can and will host.

Great tour that is reasonably priced for Hawaii standards. Lots to tour around the Kona airport and would highly recommend this one, which we learned a lot about the sea salt drying process and makes it memorable. Tour guide was excellent! And scenic facilities as well to cater to other events. Nice taste testing of salts at the end with pineapple cucumber and tomatoes.

This was a great find. What an interesting place. We thoroughly enjoyed the salt tasting and found several flavors to take home. In hindsight, we could have gotten more because I could see them being nice little gifts for others. The knowledge and helpfulness of the staff was spot on. We also picked up some magnesium drops. But the best part was the deep water magnesium foot soak. What a ...um... refreshing twenty minutes. My wife and I both enjoyed it and felt relaxed, refreshed, and rejuvenated. My wife battles knee and feet pain, and this soak gave her some great relief for several hours. Michael was very helpful and a pleasure to visit with through the soak. And the ocean view capped off the experience. I can see us doing this again on our next visit to the Island, if not a second round, before we leave.
We'll done guys, keep up the good work!

A diamond in the rough, this place is amazing! Not what you would expect to see, because it’s in an industrial area. They promote and support wildlife conservation! Staff is amazing! Polani was remarkable and gave us some great ideas for other places to visit! The foot soak was amazing!! Highly recommend visiting this place!

While I love learning about salt and minerals, it seems that this place is really poorly run. The tours are twice as large as they should be so people are constantly getting into each other’s way and bumping into each other. They need to add an age minimum to the tours (eight seems good) because inattentive parents dragged their coterie of 3-5 year olds with them and they whined, kicked things, and splashed in puddles throughout the tour. The salt, while interesting to see, lacked any interesting flavor, and the tasting was not paired well with the salts. They chose flavorful fruits and vegetables that totally drowned out the salt flavors.
They are also totally mishandling the foot soaks. They are using the wrong temperature for novice cold plunges. Temperatures 35-40 degrees (they’re using 38 degrees) are usually only for advanced athletes who have been conditioning themselves to tolerate ice baths. For novices like tourists, usually people start with 50-60 degrees, taken only 30-60 seconds at a time to avoid pain (not twenty minutes straight the way they’re doing it). They need to be heating the water up, or taking it from a different ocean depth, in order not to cause tourists nerve and bone pain. My feet hurt for hours afterwards.
But the major issue that I had, was with the employees. While the tour guide was cheery and wonderful, the other employees were not. It seems to be a case of “the rotten apple poisons the barrel.” There’s a horrifically grumpy man who is actively rude to the tourists in the gift shop, because he is intent on teaching tourists manners in inappropriate ways. He also mistreats his colleagues, which meant through the foot soak, the guy running it was venting and grumpy that this bad apple kept implying he didn’t know how to do his job. Both of them were very unprofessional.
So, while I still think it’s worth a stop if you like deep sea minerals, don’t bring your kids unless they’re in elementary school or older, avoid the foot soak, and stay away from the grumpy folks.

This tour was fantastic. First, let’s start with Mia, a Hawaiian native with bursting energy and overflowing knowledge of the process of harvesting salt. A mix of conservation, production, and philanthropy ( a must for every great local business). The tour ended with salt sampling and me buying several sets to bring home to my family.
