Highly recommended! Ultra family friendly.

Rachel and Dan's highly interactive tour was one of the best parts of our week on the Big Island! Our 4 and 6 year olds got to do so many things -- from all the hands-on steps in making chocolate to tasting a dozen tropical plants.

Dan and Rachel's depth of knowledge on every topic were impressive, and their warmth throughout the tour made it feel like visiting distant relatives rather than a transactional business. So glad we stumbled upon this!

We did the chocolate tour and it was an amazing experience! The opportunity to taste chocolate nectar was a particularly special part of our tour. It was so delicious! It was inspiring to see their sustainable farming methods and the chocolate is so pure! It was fascinating to see the entire process. Please support this amazing local farm! They are a big island treasure!

We stayed on this farm for part of our stay while on the Big Island. It was such a beautiful home and there was a gorgeous waterfall you could swim at in the back.

If you are a chocolate fan you really need to try there chocolate they make here. It’s probably some of the best dark chocolate I’ve had. Overall, the place is awesome, 10/10 recommend staying here.

It’s a must visit! Dan and Rachael are marvelous hosts, it’s an intimate and personable experience, not touristy, the farm is sustainable focused completely solar and hydro powered, the biodiversity on site is incredible! I’ve been on many Cacao tours in various places, for the size of the operation this farm is executed beautifully.

Did not enjoy the response we got from our host Rachel. The place was very clean and satisfying. There was no clear path to the waterfall so be sure to ask. Was not clear if the botanical gardens was an offered attraction or not.

We were lucky to visit the farm on a sunny day, which is relatively rare for the Hilo area. The farm is located in beautiful countryside with lush greenery. It made our way to the farm a joy for eyes. Rachel and Dan shared various aspects of their knowledge and experience of sustainable farming on the island. With every question we asked, our conversation evolved, touching history, plants, food, natural resources, you name it! Together, we made sugar cane juice and then a lemonade by adding the juice of freshly picked and squeezed lemons and limes. There are a few cocoa tree farms with chocolate making facilities on the island. Still, only here you can taste heavenly cocoa nectar (highly laborious and this rarely made by farmers) and stone-ground chocolate made with no additional ingredients but a touch of local honey. Oh, and chickens with colorful eggs! Oh, and miracle berries! Why “miracle “? Get a proper car for rural roads, get ready for real farm experience, and go to the Kulike farm to find out!

Kulike Farms is a beautiful farm tucked away on Hwy 19. We saw coconuts, bananas, papayas, rambutans, kumquats, lemons, lilikois, taro, and some vegetables being grown on the farm. We walked us around and harvested the ripe fruit off the trees as we did. We also fed and petted some bunnies, saw a huge chicken farm and harvested fresh eggs, and fed a giant tortoise. There was also a pretty little waterfall on the property that we could walk to.
Rachel was a wonderful host. She was flexible with the timing and was quite gracious even when we got a bit delayed. She told us a lot of interesting history of the farm and surrounding areas, and let our daughter pick fruit and eggs.
The last part of the tour was sampling all the fruit we harvested and the chocolate they make on site. Both were wonderful.
We have done farm tours on other HI islands and this one was the most relaxed and enjoyable. What a great trip!
