DAY 2 of Vacation - After ziplining, we grabbed a snack in town, but we were extremely hungry. Found a nearby L&L BBQ. We have yet to try L&L being that they're almost everywhere.

Parking: They have a small parking lot. Free parking. Finding a spot can be a hit or miss.

Ambiance/Environment: Everything is outdoors. This location definitely gave local vibes. Can't miss the building bc the colors are so bright.

Service: The only interaction we had was with the cashier. He had a bit difficulties understanding us while ordering, but we were able to get through it lol. Throughput was quick; we received our orders within 8 minutes.

Food: I ordered the Chicken Katsu and spam musubis. These portions were large! My plate came with a generous amount of protein, rice, mac salad, and lettuce. Everything tasted delicious! We shared the spam musubis, and they tasted as expected.

It's been awhile since I've gone to an L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, so needless to say, I was pretty stoked to get a meal. The restaurant is hard to miss, as it's painted in bright, tropical colors; but that definitely fits the vibe I assume they're going for. There's lots of outdoor seating on the deck and it was easy to find a good spot in the corner that overlooks the main drag. As for the most important part, the food, it didn't disappoint. For a little over $12 (I ordered brown rice instead of white, so I was charged 50 cents more), I got a pretty serious heap of BBQ chicken, salad, and the aforementioned rice. All of it was fresh and delicious, and because of the quantity, I had to take some of it home (I don't usually do that). The only issue was that the lady that originally took our order had a difficult time understanding what we wanted, but that's not a deal breaker because, whom I assume was the manager, stepped in and got our order punched in correctly. Overall, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is an incredible bang for your buck, so don't hesitate to pay them a visit if you are ever in town.

After conquering the long hike of the Pololu Valley, we stumbled upon this restaurant and it was a perfect. The portions were generous, exactly what our tired bodies craved. I opted for the garlic shrimp, and oh boy, it was a flavor explosion! I've never had that much garlic in one meal, but it was cooked to perfection. A must-try for anyone in the area!

I came here after reading some reviews and they were not wrong! You definitely get your money's worth on the amount of food you order. I got the regular chicken katsu and I'll have to take it home for leftovers the portions were huge! I would definitely come back here to try other stuff.

Also what's nice is that they take credit cards!

My son took us here after coming on a previous trip. Local flair and good value. Loved the experience. Large portions and delicious. Perfect wrap up to follow the Pololu hike nearby. Would highly recommend.

Staying in the north part of the Big Island should come with a warning that (almost) every restaurant will be closed by 6pm no matter the day. That led us to the only open place L&L BBQ, where we had been to in Cali previously.

But this location made everything incredibly fresh and delicious. The lumpia, chicken katsu, and lau lau combo were all amazing. The standouts for me were the lumpia, the Mac salad, and the katsu. Tons of food for not a ton of money. And the view of the street below was glorious around sunset time.

I've been to quite a few L&L Hawaiian Barbecue locations in Oahu, the Big Island, Maui, and California, and this is by far the best-tasting L&L in the U.S. Unfortunately, with only seven days on the Big Island, I didn’t have time for a second visit. Don’t let the unassuming location fool you—highly recommended!

Good food at an affordable price. Great selection of food and enjoyable environment & friendly staff. This is a must visit when you’re on your way back from the Pololu beach hike.
