Leslie is knowledgeable and helpful. I’ve had two set of chickens 4 years apart. I like the selection options, even if crazy expensive. The chicks are heathly and eggs great.

My rating is based on my disappointment in her colored egg layers. Perhaps maybe it’s my own personal bad luck, but statistics are in my favor that it’s not just me. I got a ‘mill valley’ supposedly a colored (not brown or white) egg layer in 2020 whom laid brown eggs. There was a disclosure about how rarely a chicken can be a brown egg layer. Whomp whomp. Perhaps my bad luck. Or perhaps I was sold an Orpington. Either way I didn’t get colored eggs.

Fast forward to 2024 and I get an Easter egger, whom I was suspicious was not an Easter egger chick and commented such, but was assured it was, whom just started laying cream colored eggs. Definitely not blue or green. Cream.

perhaps it’s me with two differed chickens advertising colored eggs and I struck out both times. feels a little too unlikely statistically. Perhaps I paid premium but was given other breeds. I will never know. But I will not attempt to ever again pay a premium for a colored egg layer from here.

Leslie has the best chicken selection around! I check her chick list every spring, despite not having anymore room in my east bay yard. I’ve purchased chicks from her twice now and she is super knowledgeable, willingly answers all my questions and provides any new chick owners with all of the supplies needed to set up a brooder. She even responded to an email months later about a possible impacted crop in one of my hens. She takes the health of her birds very seriously (even having you change shoes upon arrival) which is so important when dealing with chicks! I will never get chicks from a feed store again- it’s worth it for me to spend a little more to ensure the health of my chicks, not to mention i get my pick of hard to find breeds. Couldn’t recommend Mill Valley chickens enough!

I would highly recommend NOT purchasing any chickens from this woman. Not only does she have a very rude and condescending attitude, she doesn't even breed her own chickens. I always try to support local breeders, and I thought she was one of them. I had an appointment with her at 11am. I arrived at 11:20 (traffic in the bay area...can you imagine that?) and received an email that "she was expecting me at at 11:00 and wouldn't be waiting any longer and was leaving to go do errands". Her house number is NOT obvious. It's on a pole that leads down a side road. When I politely expressed to her that I was having a difficult time finding the house number, she berated me, saying that "nobody else has ever had a problem". That's just straight up poor customer service. After receiving the chicks (which she handed to me in a gift bag! That's a first!) I started asking her about her breeding stock. She then told me that she doesn't breed her own chickens. Instead, she purchases them from large hatcheries and resells them! That is SO deceitful. A Salmon Faverolle chick from Meyer Hatchery (which is where she said they're from) costs $5.83. She sells them for $29.99! This is so fraudulent and she tries hard to hide it. It doesn't mention this anywhere on her website. I highly recommend avoiding this at all costs. Nothing about this experience was pleasant. She doesn't appreciate her customers and it shows.
ETA: I did in fact call to let her know I was running late, she just wouldn't answer the phone. I've left messages with her in the past, never to have a phone call returned. I have every single email between us that shows her condescending and berating attitude. She has a "holier than thou" attitude, and I have zero tolerance for being treated with disrespect, which is how she treated me the moment she opened her mouth. Yes, I have small children. She wanted me to call her the morning of to schedule an impromptu time, which doesn't work, as anyone with kids would know. I'm quite happy with my life. And hey, if you're ever looking for LOCAL high quality, show worthy chicks, feel free to message me! I won't condemn you for running late or berate you if you get lost!
