OBB quickly became THE GO-TO PLACE myself and my wife choose when we eat out. I’ve tried my best to try something new each time we visit (though it is SO HARD to not eat the biscuits and gravy every time we visit for brunch!) and have yet to find anything less-than delicious, and the service has been impeccable every single visit. Easily a “Must-Try” not just for Athens but for all of North Alabama! (Photos are from multiple visits)

Nestled in downtown Athens, Old Black Bear brewing is a pretty cool brewery/ eatery. With a vast array of eclectic eats, and definitely a great number of brews to quench your thirst. Anytime I go to a brewery I always opt for a flight that way I can taste the different beers that are made locally instead of getting just one and regretting it. Answer the food I went with the tuna tacos and they were absolutely delicious, and came with a hearty portion of chips on the side. The inside space is very spacious with a large bar area and plenty of seating... Would definitely recommend trying and plan on coming back when I'm in the area.

Came kind of late, but absolutely was still 100% worth it. Athens needed a good place like this!
Mushroom swiss burger was to die for, and the prices aren’t bad compared to their portion sizes. Totally worth the money I spent.
It was such a homey vibe. Not like a crazy sports bar, but it was inviting and the atmosphere is so great.
Triston was an amazing server. He still made us a brownie (although we did come late and they were closing up..) and served it with a warm smile and said, “Made with love by yours truly.”

I will definitely be back!! If you are looking for a great burger/bar , this is it!

Yum yum yum. Great new location in Athens - original in downtown Madison. The same great food and the same great menu. Bigger building and great decor. Sitting areas, couches, chairs, a bar, tables and even a front patio.

The burgers at Old Black Bear are incredible! The burger I got even had fried green tomatoes on it! The only thing stopping it from being 5 stars is the price being steep for burgers. If the price on burgers was lower, I would make this one of one my most frequent restaurant choices.

The food was amazing !!! Our server Eva was the best we have had in a while!! Great atmosphere, top notch service from Eva, a very wonderful experience!! 100% recommend if you are in or around Athens, Al.

Really enjoyed this place. Beer was good, atmosphere really cool, good service. The Rueben sandwich and sweet potato fries were excellent. The hot chicken sandwich was just mediocre…probably wouldn’t order again.

Nice atmosphere and good menu selection. The food prices are high and food quality ranges from excellent to below average from one visit to the next. Bar service was great on my first 2 visits, but terrible on my last 2 visits.
In the future, I'll consider eating elsewhere and coming here for drinks.
