Farmers' markets are often disappointing, as we expect vine or tree ripened product grown within yards of the stand. Many markets are nothing of the sort, buying refrigerated cartons of produce no better than the worst supermarkets offer: tasteless hard green produce destined to rot before it ever ripens. Refrigeration converts sugar to starch, so finding a true farm where the produce is picked ripe and sold that day means you surrender the consistent convenience of a wide and consistent array of product in favor of what is vine ripe, sweet, and available at the time of your arrival. You don't go to a true farm market to fill your order for a planned meal. The farmer and nature plan your meal, but what a meal it will be! This is what makes Old Village Farm perfect. Enter the shed, take home the most sweet and succulent produce this earth produces and return tomorrow for something different but every bit as sweet. Speaking of sweet, if you're a baklava fan, there's a wonderful hidden treasure waiting for you which surpasses even your Aunt Melina's baklava, and it's there most of the time. My concern about sending you here is once the cat is out of the bag, there may be nothing left for us. Catch a honeydew or Big Boy tomato, if you can. Slice a zucchini, sprinkle with your choice of grated cheese, bake, and enjoy a true farm to table healthy appetizer perhaps even your kids may like. Oh, getting there and returning is fodder for good family time. It's better yet if you remember words we once lived by: "Real men don't ask for directions (or use a GPS)." We love everything about Old Village Farm. It makes us smile before we even get in the car. You'll love it!
