Such a sweet find! Most of the plants are drought tolerant and native to this region of SoCal. Heather - the owner - was very helpful and accommodating. Never pushy. Planters are nicely curated and sourced. Price points were great, some larger plants are pricier as expected. Outstanding addition to this part of Altadena!

I’ve been slowly planting my backyard with plants from plant material. The staff is super helpful by answering questions, making recommendations, and they have a great selection of native and drought tolerant plants. Also, loved they did not try to upsell me on a larger sized plant. The staff is very knowledgeable. Highly recommend stopping by this unique nursery that is in an old gas station! Bonus points for staff members wearing Terremoto hats, my favorite landscape designers.

Plant-Material goes above and BEYOND. They are not only incredibly knowledgable about plants, plant care, and have beautiful pots / accessories but have the most amazing customer service.

It’s not easy to run a business and yet they manage to do so with grace, personality, and they make the plant/gardening experience a dream.

My family lives in the area but I am from out of town and was shopping remotely for a plant for a friends new salon opening. They not only sent me a beautiful recommendation but potted it and handled allllll of the details.

Best place - great team knows everything, plants are really fairly priced and much more affordable than the other garden store on Lincoln, wide selection of plants that grow well in the region (but also citrus and seedlings for the veggie garden, curated selection of indoor plants, nice pots, and gardening supplies).

What a wonderful nursery, with drought tolerant plants, beautiful and healthy, perfect for our neighborhood. They also sell herbs and vegetables. They have converted an old gas station, which was abandoned for years and was an eyesore, into a thriving, healthy place!
They have an amazing display of beautiful Japanese tools and gloves. Excellent quality.
They have a chicken coop with gorgeous silky chickens too! Their staff/owners are genuinely kind, helpful and willing to figure your gardening needs with you. What an amazing addition to Altadena!

Thank goodness there's a high quality nursery specializing in California natives in Altadena now.

I've been on the hunt for native milkweed and I was surprised that this new nursery carried a ton of regular and organic narrow leaf milkweed as well as plenty of seed packets. It's extremely hard to find native milkweed during prime spring planting season.

For those who need fertilizer, they have Down to Earth fertilizer sold by the box or bulk by-the-pound (best deal). The selection of edible plants is pretty decent.

For the kiddos, there's a small petting chicken and bunny coop tucked away on the north side of the building. Who says that nurseries can't be fun for the whole family?

The staff were able to find the right plants for my irrigation, bloom timing, and shade conditions. Extra bonus, they even had Theodore Payne Nursery Tour tickets for sale.
