Officially the benchmark by which I’ll measure any poke ever again. The most fresh, tender, and delicious fish; massive servings; incredibly friendly staff. Also, the kulolo sundae, which came highly recommended, was easily a top dessert in our trip involving Oahu + two foodie countries.

We went around to some other renowned poke places thinking maybe all fish on the island was this good simply on account of being so fresh, but not so. We came back here to bookend the stay.

If you’re looking for the best poke on the island, look no further than Ryder’s Poke and Shave Ice in Aiea. Hands down, this was the best poke I’ve ever had. Their spicy ahi actually lives up to its name—it’s flavorful, fresh, and truly spicy, not just a hint of heat. The rice? Cooked to perfection, the ideal base for their incredible poke bowls.

We ordered the Spicy Ahi and Spicy Shoyu Poke Bowl with furikake and unagi drizzle, with their bubu arare for a little crunch. The pickled ginger and ocean salad on the side were the perfect complements, adding a burst of freshness and balance to the dish.

Save room for dessert, if you can. The Kulolo Sundae is a must. It’s a heated mochi topped with coconut ice cream, macadamia nuts, and a decadent fudge drizzle. Heavenly—comforting, sweet, and just the right amount of indulgence. The P.O.G. shaved ice is another must-try. The combination of passion fruit, orange, and guava syrup poured over a bed of vanilla ice cream and topped with condensed milk is nothing short of magic. The perfect tropical treat—sweet, tangy, creamy, and refreshing all at once.

The staff, clientele, and atmosphere at Ryder’s is unbeatable. The father-and-son duo running the place were so charismatic and friendly, they made the experience even more special. They also offer a 10% military discount.

Simply amazing!

We ordered the poke bowl (spicy and hawaiian) and had an extra topping of taegu. We had all the free toppings drizzled on top. The fish is ultra fresh and the cuts are good without any chewy and stringy bits. It was on the spicy side but that’s why people pick spicy right?

We also had the kulolo sundae which was soooo good. This is the best dessert we’ve had so far. The kulolo was tasty and the extra macadamia nut topping provide an extra texture.

Service was good though a little slow. But there was only one guy there when it opened at 11 and he was the only one doing everything. There wasn’t anyone in the kitchen behind even… so the wait is expected. He was smiley and still professional despite the line though.

Place is small so expect to take away. There’s a bench outside for a small group but we ate in the car.

Fresh poke! There were a few choices, and they were all great. Getting half and half is a good way to try a couple of choices if you're torn between 2 or want to tone down the spiciness. There's not that much room to eat in, but there's a picnic table outside, and it gets packed for lunch.

Anyone out here who gave 1 star review has got to be out of their mind or paid by other competitors. I have been to a lot of places in the world and I love Poke. I did a my research online and came across Ryders. I have to say that this is one of the best if not the best poke I've ever had. The service was amazing and the lady at the front desk was super polite, very charismatic and put together everything as she was drawing a painting where you could see how much pride she takes into the product. I ordered two so I could have one for later. Disregard all the negative reviews on here and make your way here. It is absolutely delicious, especially the spicy tuna which I had. Thank you for making my tummy happy and as this is my last day on the island, I will leave happy as I could be 😁😁😁

this is BY FAR my favorite poke place on earth!!! fresh fish, fresh ingredients, crazy good flavored sauce. i don’t want it get too famous but also they deserve to be well known too so they stay forever and i can visit them more often. i’m coming back in december to Oahu, and this is going to be my every day spot. see you soon!!! 🩵
