I gave my member number to the cashier and she looked it up in her computer and asked if it’s my wife’s. I told them Hiroki is my name, it’s not a woman’s name. Staff told me it can be if it starts with Hi or ends with Ki. This ruined today’s visit, I found the entire exchange rude and offensive. You would think a Japanese grocery store would be more mindful of people with Japanese names! Will come back for poke, but not happy about my stop today.

I came here because one of my relatives had hyped this place up, and boy, I am glad I did! I got there a little after the lunch rush started, but the wait was not terrible. I ordered a plate lunch and was impressed by the different dishes that were offered. Most of it was pretty good (the pork and eggplant was swimming in oil however) and it was a lot cheaper than I expected it to be. The store is very cool, offering a wide selection of various items for seemingly reasonable prices. I came here on my last day on the island, but I have no doubt that I will return to TJ's once I return to Maui.

Ahi Poke was just like my Momma's! Bento plates are legit! You can buy them already made or make one in your own combination. Come in early because they run out fast!

Big Japanese market, especially for a small island.
Very nice selection of staples and canned goods and freshly made bento. Not a big selection of produce though.
Fresh poké, deli counter and paper products.
Helpful, friendly employees.
Plenty of parking, just a little bit out of the way.
